James 3: Bridling the Tongue for Spiritual Growth
This document is an interpretation of James 3, and considers the exploration of self-control, the power of speech, and spiritual discipline.
James 3:1-2
My brethren, be not many masters, knowing that we shall receive the greater condemnation. For in many things we offend all. If any man offend not in word, the same is a perfect man, and able also to bridle the whole body.
S Even as a horse is bridled, so the desires of this world must be bridled. So to bridle must conquer the mind, conquer the will, and turn them to the acts that show the faith. For then the bridle is the spiritual bridle controlling the body-physical, the body-mental, putting the spiritual body in the saddle.
James 3:3-5
Behold, we put bits in the horses’ mouths, that they may obey us; and we turn about their whole body. Behold also the ships, which though they be so great, and are driven of fierce winds, yet are they turned about with a very small helm, whithersoever the governor listeth. Even so the tongue is a little member, and boasteth great things. Behold, how great a matter a little fire kindleth!
S You have been told that a smile is a great deed. This is the rudder that guides the great ship. You have been told that the tongue is the enemy and the friend of mankind, and this is the truth. For your tongue is that which may idolize the Lord or profane the Lord. It is that which declares the love of God or the love of self. The bridle is that which holds the tongue and the mouth in its grasp. Then your bridle must be your will; your rudder must be that which is the mind so adjusted by the intellect that they both seek and use the wisdom and knowledge of God.
James 3:6
And the tongue is a fire, a world of iniquity: so is the tongue among our members, that it defileth the whole body, and setteth on fire the course of nature; and it is set on fire of hell.
S You as a group must become cohesive lest the tongue or the actions of one destroy the actions of the others. For you are as those which are the law. When one law is transgressed, all have been transgressed. Therefore, each and every member of this body, of this body which is a body, must adhere daily to that which is the law as set forth by Jesus the Christ, lest you hamper the works of this body, the platform, which is a body – and each of you is a member of the body, present or not present; you are a member of the body. We are getting that which is doubt or questions about Hobson’s choice. Try Cambridge, 1600s, and you’ll find your answer.
James 3:7
For every kind of beasts, and of birds, and of serpents, and of things in the sea, is tamed, and hath been tamed of mankind:
S These are the emotions. The world has emotions; you have emotions. All things are made of emotions. For God’s emotion was love and love created. You may do that which is the creating, too, by changing your emotions to that which are the spiritual emotions of love, not that which is preached in your songs, in your books, in your movies, your T.V.s, your stories, but love of righteousness. For it is righteousness that produces the love of God. For God knows the righteous man, the righteous woman. God does not know those that are not the righteous. Jesus knows the unrighteous and Jesus will prevail so that you and others may teach the unrighteous wherein is love.

And now we give you that which is the love, the blessings, of the Father, of the Son, of the Holy Spirit. We that are the servants of God give you that which is our help, our love, and our justification for that which is our creation.

Almighty, God, we seek Thy blessing, Thy guidance, Thy mercy, Thy love, through Jesus the Christ, our Way, our Teacher, our Truth. And we ask at this time that Jesus the Christ be our guide, our tutor, that we may learn to do as You would have us do an be as You would have us be. We ask this in love and in faith. Oh lord, we knock, we ask, we seek

Behold! He is wonderful. Behold! He is light. Be aware of His mercy. Seek his presence in truth. Be not the hypocrite who call upon the Lord but, in truth, in the heart wishes not God but the material world. Alleluia, for He is come. Behold the might of God through the servant of God.
S Oft you have asked, “Others first, Father, others first,” but you have not lived for that which you have asked. You have been given the word and you have not listened. You have done those things which were for selves rather than for others through that which are the teachings as given. You have sought afield and afar for those other words and thoughts that sometimes you rationalize as learning procedures. And we have given that it is a correct thing to seek, to find, to establish in the minds of selves from all sources that you would find to be the path. You have strained only minutely at that which is the task before you. You have spent more time thinking of your own ills than you have of the word of the Lord. You have been given that faith will make you whole. Is any one of you whole? Therefore, that shows a lack of faith. You have bridled at the thought of following a line or in your mind a preachment and we have not given this to you. We have not given you a regimen for you to follow, but only generalities. And thus say the Lord thy God, “You shall bend the knee of mind, of body, and of spirit, before Him,” not as man sees it as following that which are the dictates of a religion or a cult, as you would have it, but rather seeking, in that manner as given to you, the justice of God. There is not one present here now that would like to face the justice of God, but rather you seek to bypass it this way or that. We know your hearts. We see that that which is the Herod idea is among you. That which is Herod is that which places the materialness of this world as first. Herod rationalized thus: “I have a treasure upon this earth, therefore I believe in my treasure rather than that unseen, unproved to me.” Herod is the symbol of man’s earthly desire and it is fitting that the destruction of that which was his conscience or that which was the spiritual inclination was the cutting off or the severing of John Baptist’s head. It has been given to you that daily you nail the Prince of Love to the cross. Each of you bears a Prince of Love, Jesus the Christ, within. Each of you is responsible to that Jesus Christ. Would you hammer a nail into His palm to have a new and different experience? Would you hammer a nail through His feet that you would have more and better and comfortable life? It has been given to you: the Lord has created not to cause you misery, not to discomfort you, but the Lord thy God has created righteousness. For this is a plane of action. This is a plane of doing. The statement of this plane is the sacrifice that Jesus the Christ gave for you. Can you do less? To spend more time in worship, in prayer, than you do in the bathroom is only just. To give of yourself is the law. For He is the Law and He gave you the way. You have been given many steps, many helps, and yet your upset stomach means more to you than that which has been given. Be honest with selves, for until you are honest to yourself you cannot find that which is salvation. What is salvation? Becoming as Jesus the Christ. You cannot do it alone, but you must try. You must be not as those who cry that they are the followers of the Christ or a holy way and yet feed upon the desires of Herod, for the desires of this life, for the creature comforts that you have. For none of you sacrifice that for God. We do not ask you to beat yourself, to mutilate yourself. We do not ask you to do but one thing: be honest with yourself. For each individual must find honesty in the self that the actions of this plane will be honest and be a prayer to God. We have given that on that which you call January sixth, Epiphany, birthday of Jesus within this plane, as the time that you must make a decision. If you cannot live with that which has been given to you in these readings it is time for you to exit with no feeling of hurt or persecution. For if you stay beyond that time and you say to yourself and to others that you believe in what you have been given, then you are the hypocrite. You not only damage yourself but you damage those around you, for the harmony that is needed will not be present. Nothing will be held against you if you cannot come to terms with yourself. But remember this: if you say to yourself, and believe, that you accept, that you must put Christ into your life, there is not the turning back. For this group can no longer be as it was. It must go out as the ripples, as was described in the meaning of this group, to others. To show to others what you believe, that they may honor God in their way the more. You must become more cohesive as a group. You must share more as a group. We are not asking you to become as a commune or as a one, but one in spirit….If you then would go out to others and become an example of love, of peace, then you are the action. We have given before that you must tithe of time and of spirit. Tithing is action. There is much more to be said to this group but that will come at that time that you seek the way, that you, in truth, knock, and in reality, knock. For God will open the door. And if you, in truth, seek, you will not seek in vain. That is a promise that is true. Ask in truth, not in selfish desire, and you will receive. For never has God turned aside those who do this in truth.
James 3:8-10
But the tongue can no man tame; it is an unruly evil, full of deadly poison. Therewith bless we God, even the Father; and therewith curse we men, which are made after the similitude of God. Out of the same mouth proceedeth blessing and cursing. My brethren, these things ought not so to be.
S To those that dedicate themselves to the spiritual path, the true seeking, all things become one. Can you bless God, can you honor God, can you love God and at the same time do that which is dishonoring God? This cannot be in a duality. It must be a singleness. You must make yourself that which would honor God, that which would be a glory of God, and only when your eye is single, only when your purpose is single, and only when you become one with that which is the way will you honor God. Thus, it is that you must make a purpose the purpose of being. For when you have a purpose you bring life into yourself, you focalize upon that which is life in action and, once again, this is action.
James 3:11-12
Doth a fountain send forth at the same place sweet water and bitter? Can the fig tree, my brethren, bear olive berries? or a vine, figs? So can no fountain both yield salt water and fresh.
S You are the fountain. You are the fig tree. You are all these things. And of yourself you can do nothing. Therefore, divided you are less than nothing. You are detrimental to yourself and others. However, God in His mercy, can bring forth sweet water from the bitter, can raise from the dust that which is the beautiful, that which is the greenery, that which is love in action. Therefore, turn to God. Make your way single, as given, that you, too, may be a miracle and turn from bitterness to sweetness.
James 3:13-16
Who is a wise man and endued with knowledge among you? let him shew out of a good conversation his works with meekness of wisdom. But if ye have bitter envying and strife in your hearts, glory not, and lie not against the truth. This wisdom descendeth not from above, but is earthly, sensual, devilish. For where envying and strife is, there is confusion and every evil work.
S This is the Herod among you. This is the devil of the mind. This is selfishness at work. Put it aside that the light will make you whole, for the truth is the Christ and you must know the truth of your own being to allow the Christ to become true to you. This is a sacrifice. For you have been taught all your lives to worship that of this world, and, truly, few sacrifice the goods of this world for the goods of the spiritual realm.
James 3:17-18
But the wisdom that is from above is first pure, then peaceable, gentle, and easy to be intreated, full of mercy and good fruits, without partiality, and without hypocrisy. And the fruit of righteousness is sown in peace of them that make peace.
S The first peace you must make is with yourself and this is the calmness, this is the foundation in God. But the peace of God is not that which you would assume, for it is action, again, and that action leads to sacrifice, which is a tearing, which is a rending of that which you believe, mentally and physically, to be the greater things of this earth. It leads to that which is conflict within selves and that which is a force from without. And yet, there is a peace that you cannot understand, but your soul understands. It is the ambrosia of God that feeds the soul.
