Matthew 6: Spiritual Depth in Jesus' Teachings and Lord's PrayerThis document is an in-depth metaphysical and spiritual analysis of the sixth chapter of the Gospel of Matthew and the Lord’s prayer. It delves into the teachings of Jesus in this chapter, focusing on themes such as faith, spiritual awakening, and personal growth through Christ’s teachings. The material includes a discussion on the Lord’s Prayer, the importance of sincere intentions in alms-giving and prayer, and the spiritual understanding of material possessions.

Matthew 6:1-5

Take heed that ye do not your alms before men, to be seen of them: otherwise ye have no reward of your Father which is in heaven. Therefore, when thou doest thine alms, do not sound a trumpet before thee, as the hypocrites do in the and in the streets, that they may have glory of men. Verily I say unto you, They have their reward. But when thou doest alms, let not thy left hand know what thy right hand doeth: That thine alms may be in secret: and thy Father which seeth in secret himself shall reward thee openly. And when thou prayest, thou shalt not be as the hypocrites are: for they love to pray standing in the synagogues and in the corners of the streets, that they may be seen of men. Verily I say unto you, they have their reward.

S Once again, this is directing self to be spontaneous, to be directed by the spirit within, rather than doing the deeds thought out and then thought of afterwards. Until self is rid of desire in such a manner, ye cannot reap that which the Father would give to thee or the truth of thy being revealed. Rather, you will receive according to that which is the nature of self in the physical, mental planes, but not in the spiritual planes, or the release that ye seek or see for self, and the needs therein. Therefore, let the heart of self, the soul of self, direct you in that which is the giving to others, whether it is to the drunk that asks, the Salvation Army, or the smile thats needed by a child.

Our Father, which art in heaven,

Beloved, make Thy presence known to us, now,

through that which is the Christ. That as You

would have us be, so we will be. We ask this,

oh Lord, knowing that that which You would

have us do is best, that is not of ourselves,

but of Thee, oh Lord.

Praise be to His holy name. Praise be to him who would follow the Way, the Truth, and the Light. Welcome, oh prisoners of Christ. Even as we are prisoners of Christ, so ye will be that which are prisoners of Christ, servants of God.

We have the group, and the inquiring minds of the group, and that which is the presence of the saints and the angels. And we give you this, then, this thought: Now, then, take to yourself that which is short, but that which is explicit, knowing that each personage given, each value given, each place given, is within self, within mind, body, and soul. Then take that which is the 101st Psalm to be that which begins the day for each and every entity and that which is that which will be used in that which starts your meetings, your groups, what have you.

 Matthew 6:3-5:

But when thou doest alms, let not thy left hand know what thy right hand doeth: that thine alms may be in secret: and thy Father which seeth in secret himself shall reward thee openly. And when thou prayest, thou shalt not be as the hypocrites are: for they love to pray standing in the synagogues and in the corners of the street, that they may be seen of men. Verily I say unto you, they have their reward.

S Here you have that which is the directive, that which is a prime directive, that which is saying in truth: go within self. Honor not that which is the shell, or the ego. But do the Father’s will, His work, from that which is within, looking not for the worldly or that which is as praise. For that which is praise should be said and sung to God. Remembering, even as that which is left or right, or symbolmatic of that which is as the material and the spiritual, keeping them apart and yet balanced with the self, knowing full well what each does. And keeping, then, that which is the value of both in balance.

Q Which is the spiritual and which is the material in that symbology, the left or the right?

S As given and used in that day, or that which is not only the meaning for the masses but the metaphysical meaning of the time – left being that which is the material, or even today as to those in the East, that which is the degraded hand, or side, or arm. And the right, therefore, meaning that which was the spiritual, or that which is the higher self or higher aspiration.

Matthew 6:6-8

But thou, when thou prayest, enter into thy closet, and when thou hast shut thy door, pray to thy Father which is in secret; and thy Father which seeth in secret shall reward thee openly. But when ye pray, use not vain repetitions, as the heathen do: for they think that they shall be heard for their much speaking. Be not ye therefore like unto them: for your Father knoweth what things ye have need of, before ye ask him.

S Here is that which is the directive of going within into that place of silence, that which is meditation. But also warning that ye should ask God what is best for self, not tell God what is best for self. For He that answers thy prayers will answer them at times to that which is your own misdoing, if ye would so have it. For it is a learning situation, even in the prayer, even in that which is as meditation.

Q What is meant by “thy closet”?

S This is the inner self, the Holy of Holies. That which is shut off from the world, even as the closet in which hangs thy goodness, thy robes that are put upon self, making self even to that which is the spiritual.

Q Is there much value in meditation without prayer?

S Meditation is valuable at all times, but so oft without prayer it is not meditation but contemplation. Contemplation has its points. For many it should be prayer, contemplation, and meditation.

Q About vain repetitions: this does not refer in any way to the affirmations that we use over and over, does it?

S If an affirmation becomes as even that which is given here, repetitious, where the mind does not dwell upon the thought, but gives only lip service, even if it is mental lip service, and the mind wanders or it is not focused upon what it is asking, it is vain repetition.

Q What does the shutting of the door to the closet symbolize?

S This is the silence, or the shutting out the world, the world of thought and self‘s desires, into that which is the depth of self, or the I AM:

Matthew 6:913

After this manner therefore pray ye: Our Father which art in heaven, Hallowed be thy name. Thy kingdom come. Thy will be done in earth, as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread. And forgive us our debts, as we forgive our debtors. And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil: For thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory, forever. Amen.

S This has been given and explained before. This is as that which raises the forces within the body through the centers of the body. This may be awakened within self even though it is not in the form as given. It is yet the idea that is as the importance here. For even as we have given before, it is that which stirs the individual, rather than the context itself, that is important.

Q Is the version given by Edgar Cayce correct or should it be modified in any way?

S It is correct.

Matthew 6:141 5

For if ye forgive men their trespasses, your heavenly Father will also forgive you: But if ye forgive not men their trespasses, neither will your Father forgive your trespasses.

S This is the basis of mercy. This is the basis of justice. This is the basis of truth. For as ye become as Godlike in forgiving, in understanding, so the same occurs to self. As you awaken to the fact that you live in illusion, however real and concrete to you, it is in itself illusion, and therefore to reach that state that throws aside the illusion, self must forgive, must find gentleness, kindness. But that which is forgiving is the way.

Q Is it correct to understand that grace comes through forgiving others? That the karmic reaction of ”as ye sowworks in such a way that we have our sins wiped out through forgiving like sins in others?

S When ye have total forgiveness, then ye have reached that which is the God state. For when was Jesus finally, totally christed? ‘Father, forgive them”, see?

Matthew 6:16-18

Moreover, when ye fast, be not, as the hypocrites, of a sad countenance: for they disfigure their faces, that they may appear unto men to fast. Verily I say unto you, They have their reward. But thou, when thou fastest, anoint thine head, and wash thy face; That thou appear not unto men to fast, but unto thy Father which is in secret: and thy Father, which seeth in secret, shall reward thee openly.

S The truth here, you see, being that which is, once again, the illusion. For if ye perpetuate the illusion, then you are mired deeper within illusion. But when you go to the truth, seeking the truth, then the truth rewards you with that which is past the illusion into the truth, into God.

Q This refers to spiritual fasting, putting aside things of the material and concentrating on the things of the spiritual, doesn’t it?

S lt is that which is the spiritual. lt is the proper use of the material. It does not mean to throw aside all material things, as so often people think the Master of Love implied. No. It is to throw off the chains, or that which are the desires of the material, but to use them correctly to their fullest. Therefore, those who would use the material correctly and have the abundance which God has intended each and every entity to have, merely shake the desires for same, and put them in their proper perspective, that you may see them to be what they are illusions to be used in propriety for others and for self. For remember, the body is where you meet your God. lt is your temple. And it has its just dues, too.

Q Please discuss the value of fasting as far as food is concerned.

S Fasting, as far as food is concerned, is putting down that which are the animal desires and temptations. It is symbolmatic of the mind being tamed by that which is the spirit. The body, being so much of the mind, so much of the will. And when they are subjected to that which is the spiritual nature of self, this is true fasting.

Q Does the spirit also have to be cleansed from physical influences?

S The spirit itself is chained to the body. Therefore, as the body is cleansed, the spirit is cleansed. See?

Matthew 6:1921

Lay not up for yourselves treasures upon earth, where moth and rust doth corrupt, and where thieves break through and steal: But lay up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where neither moth nor rust doth corrupt, and where thieves do not break through nor steal: For where your treasure is, there will your heart be also.

S Here we have a twofold manifestation of thought. First, if ye do not use your treasures correctly in the earth, therefore, they are destroyed. For if you hoard and hide away your goods without putting them into full usage that they may help others, that they may go forth and be used the more and grow greater, ye have gone astray. And yet the greater meaning is that which is the esoteric or the metaphysical; meaning that: do not corrupt that which is the inner light, the inner spiritual forces by bending self to that lower level where the material is the greater. And here is the corruption. Here is where the thefts occur. For thievery is that which takes away only the material, cannot touch the spiritual.

Q This, then, ties in exactly with the verse, He who climbs up some other way is a thief and a robber’‘?

S Correct.

Q. And Cayce said ‘to thyself.” [thief and robber to thyself]

S Correct.

Q Please discuss this question of the church, as it has been formed by man in his thinking, thats put so much emphasis on poverty.

S This is the misconception of that which Jesus taught; as He even gave to the rich, as He gave to those who were titled, as He gave to those who had great riches of land, of intelligence, that these were but chains that bound self to the material world. Make yourself poor in that which binds you. If the lands, if the titles, if the wealth, if the intelligence, does not bind you, and you use it as it should be used, poured forth for others, for the glory of God, then abundance is yours. The church misinterpreted to a degree. However, those who came later maximized this, made it greater, that they could control all the physical being of man, theoretically, to themselves. That when the physical man is as controlled, then the spiritual man may be more forthcoming. lt was rationalization.

Q Could you discuss whether our president is setting the right kind of an example in the context of what you’ve been saying?

S To a degree this individual is doing what that entity feels is as the spiritual guiding force, or principle, of his beliefs in God and self.

Q Please discuss the ownership of something like a savings account in this context.

S If the savings account does not become that which is saving for saving’s sake, and is used as needed ( or that which are the forces, or that which is the optimum occurs), then it is [not] as that which drags self down. But if it is used, as given, for those necessities or those other things, freely, and with no regret at having been pulled or used, or if it is put back freely and others are not abused or hurt, or self is not abused and hurt, it is correct.

Q When you give a large sum of money to some other person, are you helping them or maybe building up some karma for them?

S Each and every individual case is individual. There is no rule for all cases.

Q Several of what are termed New Thought churches emphasize and teach our right to be financially prosperous through using our mind power. This philosophy does not appear to me to be in keeping with the parable of the rich young man. Please elaborate and discuss this.

S First, it is given, ‘Where thy riches lie, so lies the heart’. If ye would have prosperity to be equal to that of the spiritual, little less, or even more, there will your heart be too, and, in truth, can serve not two masters. Prosperity is that which comes in many forms and if you receive it in faith, not sating the desires of the body or the desires of the mind, but rather using it as a tool of love and goodness, even to the necessities of self, it will be as that which is a gift. But where, ever so slightly, you see, there is that impelling force that begins to feed the desires of the body and the desires of the mind the more, then stand back. Much, see, is brought to self in the way of temptations.

That which is given is correct by those people and those churches, those institutes. God has never wanted His people to go in want. But what is greater? The spiritual want, or the mental and physical want? Each entity, each individual, must make his choice. But be wary when self is channeled into a direction of easing the physical comforts, easing the physical situations and sating the mind and the mind’s desire. Look out for the rationalization in self and others. There is plenty available. There always will be. But receive it in faith and do not lay up your riches where corruption or moth will destroy it. Rather turn it in the way of good deeds that others may benefit. But here again, be careful, for when you sate the appetites and desires, the more physical beings of others, you have not dealt with them in good faith. This is why governments of today miscalculate and do wrong for cradling, for giving the more to those who have come in to find their way, to gather experiences in the needs of the mind and the body, to overcome them through the spiritual way. And how can you be led in the spiritual way when uppermost in your mind and all those around you is sating the physical and the mental man rather than the spiritual, where all is given and all emphasis is in the giving rather than the doing on their own, see? This is not to say that those in need are not to be helped … but only be given that boost that they may help themselves and help others that they, too, may be servants of the God that serves.[10-12, 9-28-74]

Matthew 6:2223

The light of the body is the eye: if therefore thine eye be single, thy whole body shall be full of light. But if thine eye be evil, thy whole body shall be full of darkness. If therefore the light that is in thee be darkness, how great is that darkness!

S Here‘s the guiding light. Make, then, the path a one path, one way – all things as a hymn to God, whether it is in the combing of the hair, the eating of the meal, whether it is that which you would consider drudgery or that which is joy. Make it all single in purpose, keeping in the back of the mind always, though it may be at times hard, that all is of God, in God, for God. And so, then, the of self will be ever more towards that which is reaching to the epitome that ye may find in this earth plane – the Christhood.

Q Does darkness refer to absence of light or an actual dark light?

S There is dark light. Even as a prism takes that which is sunlight and refracts it, so the eye, the inner eye, calcified, refracts that which is the light to that  which is the dark. How can it be overcome? By bringing the light into the mind, that the mind will begin to direct the body, and the body to direct the will, and the will, in conjunction with the mind and the body, open up that which is as the eye to the light, that no longer will it be refracted to that which is the darkness.

Matthew 6:24-25

No man can serve two masters: for either he will hate the one, and love the other; or else he will hold to the one, and despise the other. Ye cannot serve God and mammon. Therefore, I say unto you, Take no thought for your life, what ye shall eat, or what ye shall drink; nor yet for your body, what ye shall put on. Is not the life more than meat, and the body than raiment?

S Here is the simple putting forward of priorities of each and every individual. Some say, ‘then how can the body function’? But when ye care not for that, put in propriety, then the proper happenings will occur through the mental disposition of self. lt is a matter of putting the spiritual things first. Then the others will fall into place. There are those who convince themselves that the spiritual necessities are that which is the degrading of the body through flagellation, starvation, and those tortures of the body. To despise the body is to despise Gods house. Therefore, make it not the edifice that is too ornate, that would draw from the attention of self to that which are the lower areas, which is the physical. And yet, in its proper place, following that which is as the spiritual side of self, the body will be taken care of.

Q What is the meaning of mammon!

S Mammon, here, to most is wealth. But mammon in totality means that which are the lower urges, desires, as manifested in money or the gathering to self, which is money. Gold does not feed a body, but the gold of God-lovefeeds. How often have men sacrificed that which is their spiritual nature and the lives of others for the lower, base emotions. Not just that which is the money wealth, but that which are the desires and greed of the body and of the mind. This is what mammon is.

Q Has man’s love for gold been based on an inner knowing of the symbol of gold in the spiritual aura?

S Oh, yes. But so much of it, you see, has been abuilded in those which were Lemuria and Atlantis, see, where the gold was known to be (or) that which was the element of healing, reflecting that which is the holiness of God. Much in great abundance in those two cultures through the ages, and not that which was in less abundance, as is seen in the past histories of man. But yes, that which is of the spiritual nature of self, the inner urgings, knows that gold is the symbol of God in the material.

Matthew 6:26-27

Behold the fowls of the air: for they sow not, neither do they reap, nor gather into barns; yet your heavenly Father feedeth them. Are ye not much better than they? Which of you by taking thought can add one cubit unto his stature?

S Here you have that which is in reality speaking of the mind rather than that which is especially of that which is of the fowls themselves or the physical nature of things, but more in that which is the spiritual nature. For you cannot change yourself one bit spiritually. Through the mental imaging and learning you may change that which is the physical image, but only God can affect, in total, that which is the spiritual image of each and every entity.

Matthew 6:283 1

And why take ye thought for raiment? Consider the lilies of the field, how they grow; they toil not, neither do they spin: And yet I say unto you, That even Solomon in all his glory was not arrayed like one of these. Wherefore, if God so clothe the grass of the field, which today is, and tomorrow is cast into the oven, shall he not much more clothe you, O ye of little faith? Therefore, take no thought, saying, What shall we eat? or, What shall we drink? or, Wherewithal shall we be clothed?

S Once again, raiment, food are that which is the outer man. And that which is even as the purity of the white of the lily is that which rises within self. Even to that which is the lotus flower to those who are in the East, so to those of the West (or that which was the meeting of the East and the West at this time), so the lily to the Essenes was that which represented the unfolding of God from the mire, from the muck. From that which was the earth came that which was life and beauty.

Q What is meant by grass of the field into the oven the next day?

S This is as that which are the souls who are transported from this plane to those planes where they must be cleansed the more, that the drosses of the spirit (and they do hang upon the spirit) are cleansed the more by that which is the fiery furnace.

Q It was said, ”Souls who are transported from this plane to planes where they must be cleansed the more, that the drosses of the spirit (and they do hang upon the spirit) are cleansed the more by that which is the fiery furnace.” What are the drosses of the spirit?

S Those actions, those thought patterns that have become established in that which is the real mind of the individuals that must be overcome, for they encase that which is the spiritual self, or the soul force, in that which is as a fence, or that which is as a curtain, to hold back from that, then, which is the Light and the Truth and the Way. [10-28, 3-26-77]

Q What is the fiery furnace that cleanses these drosses?

 S Truth.

Q Is this referring to Saturn?

S Quite correct.

Q What does Saturn mean? ls it a question of environment surrounding that planet or is it a state of consciousness?

S Well, it’s a little of both and yet neither. It’s that which lies upon another plane. That which is on the plane where thought and mind become the complex, rather than that which are as stages that lies within this plane. In this plane there is separation between the will, the mind, and the spirit. Therefore, in this plane you must bring them into balance before that which is the totality of self may succeed. As in those other environs, there is bringing together, depending upon the area or the stage brought into, the mind and the body, that of the will, the mind body and the will, and at other times the spirit body, the mind body, and the will body. For they exist separately and yet together and become even as a triad, or a triangle, that exists, even as you would have a force or an energy field in a vacuum exist, becoming one, and a closed, as you would, circuit,  as within this plane.

QIs this what Jesus was referring to when He referred to Gehenna?

S Yes.

Matthew 6:32-34

(For after all these things do the Gentiles seek:) for your heavenly Father knoweth that ye have need of all these things. But seek ye first the kingdom of God, and his righteousness; and all these things shall be added unto you. Take therefore no thought for the morrow: for the morrow shall take thought for the things of itself. Sufficient unto the day is the evil thereof.

S Here is that warning: delve not into the future for the future is today. You live in today. For ye live in that which is a time, material plane. The dimensions of this plane limit you, and unlike other planes where there is no time ( or time of past, present, and future can be made one), you must regulate yourself to that which is doing your deeds now. In other words, you cannot be something tomorrow that you are not today.

Q How does this relate to prophecy?

S Prophecy is that which comes from the outer areas, or through that which is not regulated by time, through the Christ Force or that which is the Holy Spirit in action, brought together, to give to that which are the signposts for those who are locked in time.

Q What are “all these things shall be added unto you’?

S All things that are possible of the Holy Spirit. These are those things, that is to say, the casting off of that which holds self in this realm: fear, unbelief, the urges of the body and the mind – those things. Some have thrown them aside. Some have taken all these things to themselves, and yet they operate within this world. For they, like the Christ Jesus, give of themselves so that their brothers, their sisters might find the Way, the Truth, and the Light, the path to God.

Q Can righteousness be defined as the right use of the spiritual law, or could it be better said?

S That is correct. lt is using the wisdom that is innate within each and every individual, and using the capabilities of the spiritual power, the mental power, that lie within each and every individual to that which is the common goal of all: to return to that which is the consciousness of Christ.

Q Does the prevalent use of pesticides all around us cause any alteration in the interpretation of these verses?

S Only to those who are locked within that which is the material plane. For even as men walked in the lion’s den, walked in the fiery furnace, walked between the waters as they parted, so you are only controlled as the spiritual nature of yourself is held back.

Q How does one relate this statement of not taking thought about what we eat to the question of proper diet?

S As given before in this reading, first comes the spiritual self never denying that which is God‘s temple. As the spirit becomes that which is the driving force, driving that which is the mind, and the will being the fulcrum that they balance upon, so then the proper attentions, without that which are the trappings of man’s ideas, will be given to the body. For the body is the temple of the living God, and as that which is the spiritual nature of self comes more into contact with that which is the physical nature of self, so then that which is done correctly will be done through the spirit. Until then, therefore, you must give some attention (though that which is the ultimate attention must be thrown or cast aside even as the chaff) so that that which is self, the truth of self, will come forward to operate that which is to be, and is the world, the galaxies that selves will rule over and be as gods under that which is God the Creator, through the Christ Force that is within selves, activated and motivated by that which is the Holy Spirit.

Q This, then, means that man really doesnt trust that the spirit part of him will see to his needs. Therefore, he tries to do it himself.

S Did not even Peter sink into the water at the feet of our Lord?

Q Can you give us an idea when the vibrations will be ready for Jesus the Christ to come again? Is there a schedule we should be following?

S As so often given, Rome wasn’t built in a day, and that ye must build stone upon stone, brick upon brick. Thy handiwork sets the pace. The time is coming but look not for the morrow. For that which is today is the building of that which is to come. Lt must be upon the basis of today, a solid foundation, not sand but rock, faith, works ... As for a schedule, God sets the schedule. You will know what to do as the times comes, as the doors open, as the call comes forth. Even as given, ‘seek and ye shall find, and ye shall find; ask and it shall be given; and then knock, and the door will be opened, for He is ready. The time as seen from here is short, but from your plane, from anxiety, the searching, it is quite a time. [ 1 0-7, 3-10-74]

S Look not for tomorrow, or the next day, or the next day, for His coming is in His time not yours. [10-14, 2-22-75]

Q It would seem that the world, and specifically this nation, may soon experience major political and economic cataclysms as prophecies of the times of darkness and the Second Coming come into reality. If this is the case, what preparation, physical and economic, as well as mental and spiritual, would you recommend?

S Trust. For that which are the troubles of the morrow are sufficient to them. Build on this day. Love, forgive, trust. For those who have faith will survive. This nation that ye live in, this world that ye live in, is but touching the tip of that which are as the troubled times that ye find present at this time. Have faith. Let thy mind, through the meditations and the dreams, direct self as to what is to be done in the physical, as to that which is the financial, as to that which is the positioning of self, as to that which are the food probabilities. [10-20, 12676]

Q Knowing that we live in a sea of God substance, need we be concerned about the energy shortage or food shortage, or should we just know that our needs shall be met?

S As given: care not for the morrow, the morrow will care for itself. That which you view as an energy crisis is a laughable situation, for you are in a sea of energy. That which is created in the illusionary here is for that illusionary gain and also the reaping of the harvest sown by the people of this intemperate land. [105, 12-1473]
